 Houston Baby Photographer: Outdoor One Year Old Cake Smash Photoshoot

There's something incredibly special about a being a baby photographer. As a mama, I adore working with little ones. Their personalities are contagious and I always leave the session in a great mood. Little ones are simply a joy to work with because they're so purposeful in all that they do. Whether they're crawling, standing, or giving a big 'ol belly laugh there is purpose behind it.

For my time with beautiful Baby Ellie, I had her sweet mama meet me at a location I adore using for small children. It's in Cypress and is a historic park area. I like this location mainly because it provides a variety of options for each session type, but it's also safe and has easy parking. One year old child sessions are a blast here because the little one can explore, too!

In the beginning of Ellie's cake smash session I focused on simple child portraits. I enjoy images in which the little one is both playing candidly but also smiling at the camera. Your gallery should be diverse and filled with moments of happiness. The little one's huge grins, soulful eyes and tiny toes is simply wonderful!

Mom made this cake! She is quite the baker, huh? It's simple and chic and timeless. 

Once I introduced the actual cake to Ellie, she dug right in! During this portion of the one year old photos I take photos of everything from the child in the high chair (which I provide), from her reaching for the cake, her hands in the cake, etc. All of those tiny details really make the gallery shine and provide you with a classic collection of images you'll treasure forever.

After the cake smash portion, we cleaned Ellie up and let her play in her diaper. This is a wonderful way to end the session - to create an organic atmosphere in which the baby simply enjoys being outside and we can show all the cuteness of a newly turned one year old such as their little chunky arms, locks of hair, or chubby feet.

Good afternoon and thanks for stopping by my blog! If you're here, you're in for a treat because I am in L-O-V-E- with this maternity session! Oh, gosh. Where do I begin? The light! The location! The beautiful family! The stunning bump! Everything about this session was a joy to document. As a Houston photographer, one of which specializes in maternity and newborn portraiture, I encourage your entire family to participate in the maternity portraits. This is because they're part of your story; my job is to embrace all that is you. Little ones and spouses are certainly welcome. It's almost like a family session with emphasis on the bump. I adore celebrating your pregnancy by presenting you with a stunning gallery and an array of lovely poses, light and connected images.

For this client, I photographed both their maternity and newborn session, so stay tuned for the newborn blog coming soon! Nonetheless, they selected the ever so popular waterfall location from the list of locations I offer. I like for these to take place in the evening, usually right around sunset so the light is perfect and showcases your beautiful smile.

The beginning of my sessions always focuses on your family. This is to ensure little ones participate and they don't get bored while I photograph Mom. I provide a great deal of instruction and posing. The photos should feel warm, natural and authentic. While it's nice to have images in which everyone is smiling at the camera, it's also truly lovely to see you as a mother, snuggling your little one, or your spouse tickling little one - just enjoying one another's company.

Once we photograph the family, I delight in spending time with just Mom and Dad. Like the family photos, I provide instruction and posing. I encourage you to interact with one another and place you so the light shines down upon the back of your hair. 

Mom is absolutely radiant! Her bump is everything a maternity photographer could dream of. Her smile is contagious and I can tell she's so excited to meet Baby boy! (And by the way - now that I've photographed little brother I know how cute he is - definitely worth the wait, haha).

And of course we show off just Mom and the bump! These are wonderful to document because it's all about your silhouette and showing your pregnancy off. Pregnancy is such a feminine time.

Oh, my goodness! Good morning! Howdy! Yay - I'm so glad you're here today and have stopped by my blog to see one of the latest sessions I'm working on. If you've never been here before, no worries! I am a Houston Newborn Photographer, though I also document beautiful baby bumps, precious children and family milestones. This makes my heart soar and I love every second of what I do - even the business side of things, ha! ;)

For Baby Alyssa, Mom told me she loves purple - especially lavender. Good thing I have tons of organic, handmade textiles on hand just for your sweet baby! I love using local vendors and supporting other small businesses, so most of my tiebacks, bonnets, wraps, and posing fabric I purchase from Houston prop suppliers. 

After this set up, I moved Baby to an adorable vintage, rustic cradle! When I saw this in the antique store I knew it was made for me. For your newborn sessions, I like them to reflect a timeless and classic vibe. 30 years from now when you walk your sweet daughter down the aisle, I want you to remember these photos. They're incredibly special and require a great deal of expertise in the posing, styling and handling of the baby. This is why your sessions are typically 3-4 hours long.

All of your newborn sessions come with 2 floor props. We used an antique, grey bucket as well. I brought along the white floors because they add an organic, stunning tone to the image. They reflect the pureness and soft stillness of a new baby girl. 

This is my favorite bonnet! I bring this to every single newborn portraiture session. It seems to fit most babies pretty well and is both gender appropriate and works well with most color combinations. However, should you dislike bonnets have no fear! I have tons of other options to select from and am excited to show off your babies chubby cheeks and perfect features by framing your babies face with beautiful props.

Finally, we ended the session with a soft, blush pink posing fabric. Oh my word. This is my favorite set up from my time with this precious baby girl! I also used a neutral cheesecloth wrap to adorn baby. I love when baby's legs are softly folded back and reflect the posing of the womb. She is everything. Simply everything.

And of course, I cannot forget the family photos! All of my newborn sessions are fully inclusive so I encourage you to participate in the session. I do three poses with Dad, three poses with Mom, and then a few family photos.
