A morning in the life of Emma and Lucy | Cypress child and sibling lifestyle photographer

This morning, I spent some time with my camera and my little ones, Emma and Lucy. Lately, I've been spending a lot of time working, and I haven't had as much one-on-one time with the kiddos as I would like. While I do love working as a full time freelance photographer, there are weeks I take on a few too many projects and have to remind myself to space them out a wee bit more. :-)

Anyway, this morning Emma, my eldest, invited a neighborhood friend over, and so we filled up the pool, grabbed some toys, and found our swim suits in the bottom of the laundry hamper (as well...like any mommy I sometimes get behind on laundry, haha). We only had an hour or so before Lucy's morning nap, but they had a lot of fun splashing and enjoying the cool water. It's so humid today in Houston, and the small pool is a nice way for them to cool off without having to pack up and go to a neighborhood pool.

After playing in the pool, Lucy did a little bit of exploring. She also ate snack outdoors since I did not want to leave Emma and her friend unsupervised. Lucy is pretty fond of bananas as you can see, haha! Finally, I ended photographing their morning with Lucy as she prepared for nap time. Two hours later, she's still sleeping, and I have caught up on work!

I didn't have a chance to do many individual shots of Emma and she wasn't feeling like being posed. That's totally fine! There's always next time and I firmly believe there is no point in forcing children into anything they're not happy with (at least in the photography world...cleaning up her room is another story, haha!)

Thanks for viewing a peek into our morning!

Cypress, Tomball and Houston Newborn & Family Photographer | Baby Cooper {10 days new}

Good morning, folks! It’s a busy day over here at the Borchgrevink house. Emma is enjoying her last day of VBS (Vacation Bible School) and Lucy has just conquered breakfast, haha! Moreover, we’re gearing up for the weekend and I am looking forward to an evening of family photography sessions with new clients.

This morning, I am presenting Baby Cooper to you. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing his big sister over the last few years, and now I’m thrilled to document his own sessions! If he’s anything like big sister, Reece, than I am sure he will provide lots of laughs and adorable moments.

For his session, Mom and I chose a selection of monochromatic colors such as grey and slate; each color is complimented with a wrap as well as hat. We also did neutral tans, oatmeal, and taupe for him. When it comes to designing newborn sessions, that’s probably my favorite aspect – chatting with Mom and ordering custom set ups for each baby. I like to add new items to my Prop Shop and give you a variety to select from.

Cooper was a dream to work with! He is so squishy and snuggly; I loved holding him and posing his sweet little self. After Cooper’s posed newborn photos, we did some family set ups, too. Thanks to the E family for having me in your lovely home. I enjoyed chatting with you and catching up. I cannot wait to see you again!

Brady's Barnyard Bash | Houston, TX Child and Event Photographer

Howdy, folks!

Today is Friday, which is never a terrible way to start off the day! This morning, I am previewing Brady’s Barnyard Bash for you. While I do not normally take many events, as I specialize in photographing bundles of joy, baby bumps, and family sessions, I had a wonderful time spending the afternoon with the R family, and helping celebrate Brady turning one. What a wonderful milestone!

Mom did a beautiful job on the party; she planned fun details such as the festive menu mirroring the adorable barnyard theme such as “Chicken Feed” (aka Chex Mix) and “Cheese and Quackers” (aka a simple tray of assorted cheese and crackers, ha). I never mind a little humor! Moreover, since it is summer here in Houston, and quite humid, Mom planned for a bounce house and a water slide. Wow! I’m sure the party guests, particularly the kiddos, were in heaven. Complete with cool drinks, good company, and a laid back atmosphere, Brady’s party was a huge success!

As the photographer, it is my job to stand in the shadows and tell the story, to let everything unfold, and be patient. It is easy to see how loved Brady is; how he is enveloped in support and how excited everyone is to celebrate the fun milestone of turning one. My favorite part of his birthday bash is the cake smash. Oh, my goodness! When he saw the cake, he immediately reached for it and dove right in. He didn’t miss a single beat. And he deserves it. Happy birthday, handsome boy! I hope to see you and your sweet parents again. Thank you for having me document his birthday! It was a pleasure!

Mom is super creative! What a cute, festive spread.

The goody-bag table is adorable! I also love how Mom made a banner out of Brady's photographs. This is a personal touch that adds a warm dynamic to the event.
