When you visit my newborn & baby studio you’ll find everything you need for a great session! In fact, I pride myself on having a huge variety of luxury newborn props and items that create amazing works of baby art! Part of having a beautiful gallery, one of which stands the test of time, is having impeccable yet unique items on hand to stylishly adorn my most petite, precious clients.

For instance, you’ll find numerous colors of hats, bonnets, and little caps for both genders! Boys and girls are adorable in these hand-knitted bonnets, many of which come from all over the world. Part of the reason these props are so amazing is because each prop is custom made for the perfect newborn prop size; unlike big box stores there is something absolutely special and endearing about using a prop made my another small business, one of which makes the props specifically for certain sizes (such as 6 pounds).

What makes these special?

The bonnets in my studio, moreover, are perfect for your little one because they’re made of hypoallergenic and the softest, most natural materials for your new addition.

Since the items are handmade, they have the most adorable knitted ties and are made of super soft material, such as alpaca yarn. Newborn photography bonnets truly are special because they’re created by other people who want your images to truly shine! Using classic, timeless, and vintage-inspired props set your gallery apart through texture, unique colors, and having your precious baby’s sweet cheeks showcased! Hats are such a great addition to any session!

Absolutely gorgeous textiles

Here are sample images of sleepy caps, bonnets, hats, slouchy beanies, and more! Playing dress up with my clients is an a dream and I look forward to all of our styling. Darling little baby hats with delicate features is the perfect compliment to your little one!

Parents Give Complete Creative Freedom | Artist's Color Choices

Houston Newborn Photographer, Sarah Borchgrevink, offers a large variety of props such as colorful textiles, natural organics, vintage-inspired pieces, and stunning accessories to complement your precious baby.

Greetings, friends! Today's blog post is a special one because it shares unique and creative newborn sessions. You see, as a professional baby portrait photographer, my studio is the perfect place to have your little one's first photos taken! I offer many affordable options with completely transparent pricing. Parents encounter no hidden fees or surprises when booking. Everything is a seamless, laid-back experience from the moment you contact me about securing your own appointment.

For instance, a styling questionnaire is given so parents may relay their color preferences to me. This, along with a newborn session prep guide, is given so you're sure to have an amazing session! However, sometimes parents tell me they have no color preferences or specific props in mind. They give me complete creative freedom, which is a huge treat! Having the option to pull anything is truly a wonderful way to be creative and provide some of the best Houston Newborn Photography images! I cannot thank my clients enough for entrusting me to work with your family.

Let's get started on showcasing two recent sessions that made my heart sing!

Joshua | 6 Days New

Joshua is the most handsome little dude! Weighing just over 7 pounds with a head full of gorgeous, dark and curly locks he truly is a gem! His sweet parents told me to choose everything for the session. This in mind, I pulled all things classic yet unique; shades of blue, spring greenery, rustic red, and antique buckets. I even made sure to pull a neutral as this compliments his skin perfectly!

Joshua's session also reflects masculine newborn boy colors such as charcoal grey in the popular potato sack style of newborn wrapping. This is the super cute one where they look like a round little egg, ha! Parents always ask me how I am able to make them round like a basketball and I explain I learned this at a newborn workshop in Houston, TX. I do practice newborn safety with all of my petite clients so if you ever have a question about how a certain look is acheived please know I am an open book an completely transparent in all that I do. :-)

Aria | 5 Days Old

When Aria's parents booked her newborn appointment, they expressed complete trust in my preferences and relayed that they came to me for my professional opinion. Since I do photography newborn cherubs full time, for a living, this is a great idea since I know how colors will look under the lights, especially once we process the images in Photoshop.

For Aria, I pulled inspiration from her gorgeous skin tone! Her features are absolutely stunning: beautiful eyes, long lashes, and sweet cupid lips. She is an absolute beauty!

Aria's posed newborn session is a work of color art! You'll find many stunning tones such as a rich, vibrant purple and lilac lavendar as well as a fun spring time yellow, too! Adorned with custom headbands and tiebacks, she is the epitome of newborn grace and beauty! Her session was an absolute dream and she was such a joy to work with! Mom and Dad did an incredible job preparing her for the newborn session. They even brought grandma along to help, too! It takes a village, and I am so excited to have photographed this beautiful time for her parents.

7 Tips to Rock the Baby in a Bucket Pose: Last Week in Studio

Houston Newborn Photographer, Sarah Borchgrevink Photography, offers stunning portraiture for brand new babies & their family. See tips for posing babies in the ever so popular parent requeted set up: the bucket.

Favorite pose of parents

When booking a newborn session, parents are sent a styling questionnaire in which they're able to share their favorite props, colors, and also must have poses. It never fails: every parent requests a bucket shot because what is more precious than a newly earth side little one perfectly tucked into an adorable bucket?

As a professional baby portrait studio, I truly love working with my most petite & darling clients, particularly when it comes to a floor prop set up, such as an antique bucket. I have a huge array of props on hand, all of which are available to you. They're all vintage-inspired, often purchased from local antique shops.

When posing a baby in these rustic pails, parents often ask, "How do you achieve this look?" Have no fear! I am happy to share some tips on this so you, as a potential client, can be informed on how I safely pose little ones.

Moreover, this blog posts also showcases babies who visited in the last week so you can see variety in how I style my dreamy, timeless and stunning newborn sessions.

posing babies in a bucket

7 Tips for the bucket set up:

  1. Baby must be in a deep sleep for these images. I keep my heat on 77 degrees so baby is nice and warm, but also mold-able and peacefully slumbers so we have serene, gorgeous galleries! Part of being one of the Best Houston Newborn Photographers is providing parents with amazing galleries. The foundation of an amazing floor prop set up must always be a warm room so we have a sleepy, sweet baby.

  2. Place weights in the bottom of the bucket. This keeps it from toppling over and helps baby stay in place.

  3. Don't pose baby naked in the bucket. You see, we want to create the "illusion" that baby is naked, however, if their legs are out, this could be a danger to baby's well being because newborn babies are much stronger than they appear! They could push forward with their legs, thus launching baby out. This would be a disaster so in order to avoid this, keep baby's legs wrapped and their arms out.

  4. Select a bucket, pail or another floor prop that coincides with baby's size. I know, I know: all buckets are the same, right? Actually: this is not true! I have different buckets for different sized babies. 5-pound babies, to elaborate further, will need a different bucket than a 10-pound baby. The baby should fill most of the prop and you should not be stuffing tons of items in the bucket. To ensure we have the perfect prop for your precious, sweet little baby, I send a questionnaire once little one has arrived so you may share details such as their weight.

  5. Make sure baby is fully supported. You do so by using posing beans.

  6. Pose baby's arms before placing them in the bucket. You do not want to be picking the baby up and moving them around whilst in the bucket. The placing of the baby should be seamless: pose their arms, while the baby is in your lap, and then move them into the bucket. This keeps their head supported and you're not jolting their ever so fragile limbs.

  7. Get those elbows hooked. Essentially, this means that you have to hook their elbows over the rim of the bucket so baby does not slip downward. This is why it's ever so important to place weights (such as 20 pounds) inside of the bucket so it will not be top heavy.
