Cypress Texas Family Photographer: Outdoor and On-Location Portraits

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well today and enjoying the perfect weather. That's a perk of living in Houston; our "winter" is often filled with sunshine and in the upper 60's. I know I'll be taking my little ones to the park today once I'm finished with my business hours. However, enough about me - let's chat about today's blog post and how excited I am to present this to you!

As a portrait artist, I document family milestones. This includes child, maternity, or newborn photography. This in mind, I've had the honor of documenting Mom's latest baby bump, a lifestyle maternity/family session, and even their fine art and custom newborn portraits. I've really enjoyed getting to know this sweet bunch - especially their handsome toddler, D. For this session, however, our goal was to keep things simple and for the focus to be a family portrait that acts as a large art piece in their home. My sessions honor and preserve family bonds and connections; the photos are meant to be based upon quality versus quantity as these images belong on your walls.

For their family session, I had them meet me at one of my favorite locations in Cypress that features warm evening light. The light during the winter months is stunning and a favorite of mine. 

For family portraits, I always like to begin with group shots of the entire family. It's a good flow and starts the session off with a happy note. 

After family portraits, we move to more customized set ups such as dad with the little ones or perhaps the siblings together. It's important for your session to act as a collection; the photos must all look cohesive yet also distinct. Think of your photography session like a clothing line: each image acts a piece that has it's place but also has it's own individual, succinct focus. When designing your images, I like to find out what's most important to each client and we tailor our time together to fit your needs.

Big Brother D is incredibly sweet and ever so purposeful! He just wanted to give Mama hugs and kisses.

Good morning! I always like to start my business hours off with a blog post because they simply make my smile. As a Houston photographer, the main aspect of my career is celebrating you and your family milestones; this includes the birth of a new precious baby. This in mind, today I am showcasing one of the most kind, generous and warm families I've ever met. 

You may remember them from their posed newborn session; we *also* did a lifestyle session too, so this was a lot of fun. 

However, before previewing the beautiful, organic lifestyle session I'd love to show you a few of my favorites from Baby E's fine art newborn portraits. He is an incredibly handsome little lad; gorgeous cherub lips and perfect skin. He has eye lashes for days and the most calm demeanor. My assistant, Jackie, and I were able to do ten set ups with him because he slept so peacefully during our time with him.

As you can see, Baby E is absolutely perfect from the top of his head to his little toes. Nevertheless, here are my favorite shots from the lifestyle session. 

When I photograph a lifestyle session at a family's home, I always ask you to give me a quick tour. This allows me to see where your light is most pretty. Usually the nursery or couple's bedroom is the best so we like to utilize a space that is comfortable and laid back for you. The styling of this bedroom is perfect; rich warm wood against a cool, calming blue. Moreover, the outfits match perfectly and it was a wonderful place to start the session.

I always welcome fur babies to join the session! Fur Baby M is adorable and she *may* have stolen my heart almost as Baby E. She loved the camera!

Baby E's tiny toes in dad's hands made my heart simply melt. This is the time where your baby is fresh and new - you'll look back fondly on these small details such as the flakes of his skin or tufts of hair.

As you can see, fur baby M has taken quite the liking to her little brother, Baby E!

Houston Portrait Photographer Sarah Borchgrevink captures all things baby bump, newborn and family milestones.

Ahhhh, golden hour. My favorite time of the day. The magic hour. The inspirational hour. This is where I squeal and clap my hands and feel creativity. My sessions take place during the time shortly after sunrise or before sunset. The light is soft and pure; it embodies a stillness and creates a stunning canvas. It's my favorite tool  to utilize. 

I've been looking forward to previewing this beautiful couple. They're expecting their first baby soon and have entrusted me with the honor of documenting their baby bump. For each maternity session I photograph, I strive to create emotion and capture the love between Mom and Dad.

When you're waiting to meet your precious baby, it's an exciting time. You dream about his or her little features; her button nose or his cherub lips. You imagine Baby's weight in your arms. 

I'm looking forward to designing the newborn session. I adore incorporating details from your nursery or perhaps sentimental items such as family heirlooms or even little gifts from loved ones. This hand made "O" for example represents the name of their baby and will be part of the color scheme for the custom newborn session taking place soon!

The little booties are darling! The golden light makes me so happy, too, as it graces mom's bump and showcases love.

I always encourage Dad to participate in the photos. If you have other kiddos, too, this is always lovely as well. We had a lot of fun at this session simply because it was quiet at the Coles Crossing location and I really had a succinct focus on showing the love between Mom and Dad. 

Isn't Mom beautiful? She has a radiant glow about her. I used my 200 mm lens here so she's the focus of the frame and we can highlight her beautiful belly. 

I like this location also because of the bridge. It's wonderful for evening because the sun sets right behind the water. The bridge is a lovely platform for adding structure to the images, too, and lends a timeless, classic feel so you may hang the images year around.

I finished the session with the sun directly behind Mom. By then, the light was soft and still; it radiates serenity and peace. 

There's nothing wrong with a few candid shots during your maternity session. I like you to have fun and be who you are. Thank you to the M family! I am truly looking forward to meeting your little girl and cannot wait to work with you again. I hope you treasure these images for years to  come.
