Outdoor Family Portraits by Sarah Borchgrevink | Cutest Family in Houston

This morning I am previewing an outdoor, natural light family session. The L family is always wonderful to work with because their two little boys, A and J, are sweet as apple pie! I initially met them last year for their maternity session, and later on photographed J’s newborn photos. Now he’s a little toddler so we met at a local Cypress park for a fun family session with an emphasis on child photos for the kiddos. This park is lovely because it’s in a great location. There are trees, paths, and even a playground. I also like that it’s in Cypress so it’s not a far drive for clients. The following images are some of my favorite from their session. The little boys are handsome, huh? Mom also did a wonderful job dressing them and coordinating colors! While I do provide wardrobe advice, I like when you wear outfits that represent who you are. This is a perfect example of timeless and classic wear that still fashionable yet resonates well over the years.

Penny's 3 Month Milestone Session | Baby Plan Membership with Sarah

Oh, my goodness. Miss Penny is too cute! When it comes to working as a photographer, I truly enjoy meeting your families and seeing you grow. This session is no exception.  I had the honor of photographing Mom’s maternity session during beautiful golden hour in Cypress – a suburb located in northwest Houston. Following this, I photographed Penny’s newborn session. She was 10 pounds of squishy goodness and an absolute dream! It’s been three months and she’s already grown and changed so much. Below are some of my favorite images from her home session. I cannot wait to see her again at 6 months and document more fun milestones! Thank you to the K family for having me. Who's Hungry for Watermelon? | Charming Children's Smash Session

Howdy, y’all!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and enjoying this interesting Houston weather. One morning it’s storming, the next minute it’s sunny. Phew, how’s a photographer to keep up?! On a business note, however, I am blogging my latest natural light and on location photography session. As a photographer, I specialize in photographing little ones, squishy newborns, baby bumps and of course your family milestones. And hey – we like to keep sessions light and fun. When you turn one year old, it’s customary to smash a cake and get a little messy…but what if your favorite food is watermelon? That in mind, a watermelon smash was in store for the last tot I had in front of my camera.

I had the adorable L family meet me in one of my favorite Cypress locations; it’s in Coles Crossing and offers a plethora of photogenic variety. There is a lake with fountains, walking trails, a bridge overlooking a playground and body of water, open field of trees, and also a dock that jets out into the lake I mentioned. There is also perfect parking, so this makes the location ideal for sessions involving props. The following images are some of my favorite from the session. Of course, no session is complete without family set ups so I’ll be previewing those, too! 

In the beginning, the little one was a wee bit tentative as she looked around, unsure of why we placed two large watermelons in her vicinity. At this point, I simply use my Canon 135 f/2L or Canon 200 mm f/2.8L and observe from many meters away. This way, I'm not in her space and we can see her genuinely exploring the set up. 

Of course, I had to invite big brother to join in on the fun! It wasn't planned, but I never mind an improvised change. :-)

I also set aside some of the session to work with the entire family. We utilized the open field, rustic bridge, and the gorgeous evening sun!
