Posed Newborn Session Information | What's Included When Booking with Sarah

Posed Newborn Photography Session Information

Welcome to the blog! This post is an informative piece sharing an overview of what’s included in an appointment when booking your little one’s first professional images! I am honored you’ve stopped by and hope you find these details helpful. Let’s get started.

Fully Inclusive Packages & Pricing

As a full time business owner, and Mom to four young children, being transparent and making things easy for parents is the heart of my business. At SBP, packages are one flat rate for the entire session. This includes session design, props, time and talent as well as allotted coverage, retouching, proofing, the preparation of your final gallery, and a stunning full resolution digital gallery of non-watermarked images you may print as many times as you like. A list of three free cloud storage recommendations and consumer grade labs are also given so you’re sure to know how to safely archive your photos. Feel free to also check out newborn package & pricing for Houston baby photography.

Two Week Turnaround Time for Proofing

  • There are no in person sales appointments, separate session fees, or minimum print orders to receive your digital files. Instead, you have a proofing gallery you view from the comfort of your home, couch, or even with family members. You’ll select your favorite images and have the option to add more images if you’d like though there is no obligation to do so. If you would like professional prints and heirloom products these are available through your gallery, though just like upgrading to additional digital files there is no obligation to do so. Soft proofing is my method of choice for previewing images and what many clients relay they prefer.

Everything is provided

Everything for your sweet cherub is provided. This includes hundreds and hundreds of props such as gorgeous bonnets, headbands, dainty outfits, backdrops, buckets, bowls, baskets, wraps, and more! Simply bring your little one’s diaper bag and leave the rest to me. A styling questionnaire ensures your favorite colors make an appearance, though everything will be cohesive and match the vintage-inspired, dreamy, rustic, and timeless brand of Sarah Borchgrevink Photography. Your gallery will stand the test of time and be amazing even 30 years from now.

Please look through my Houston Newborn Photography Galleries to ensure we’re a good fit for one another! It is best you select someone who props and poses make your heart swoon. Your baby will only be brand new for a few weeks and you generally have one chance to have these images.

Classic, Timeless, and Natural Baby Photography

SBP is a traditional posed newborn photographer (Ranked Best Houston Newborn Photographers 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019) and is known for simple, natural, and vintage-inspired baby portraits with non-distracting props and themes to artfully preserve Baby as a brand new bundle of joy. Cozy wrapping, bean bag posing, and stunning macro images are the heart of the styling. If you are a fan of simplistic, stylish, and classic session designs than I’m the photographer or you. Parent, family, and sibling images are also available.

Booking

To book your appointment with Sarah, it is best to do so in advance. There are a limited amount of appointments per month to ensure every client has availability for their session. By signing your contract & fulfilling your contract, preferably in the second or third trimester, you have access and priority to the scheduling & booking calendar first.

To get this process started you’re welcome to visit the online booking page and follow the step by step instructions.

Once your baby is born, you will pick your session date & time as soon as possible. I like you to visit in the first 14 days if possible with 5-9 days being my absolute favorite sessions. Earlier is best. New babies are best photographed as they move less, sleep better, are more curly, have less baby acne, etc. Top newborn safety soothing techniques are used throughout the entire session.

Feel free to also ask questions or inquire via the contact tab, too, and we can schedule a phone, e-mail, or in person consultation. You’re also welcome to see a full gallery of any session type you’re interested in as it is important to ensure you like the style of photography I implement during my sessions.

Moreover, once your Baby is born you will receive a posed newborn prep guide telling you everything that will happen before, during, and after your session. This prep guide also covers what type of outfits to wear to your appointment should you choose to participate in your baby’s professional portraits.

Where is the studio located?

As of June 2019, Sarah is located in Uptown, inside the 610 loop, in order to be central to all parts of Houston. The address is 4550 Post Oak Place, Suite 203, Houston TX, 77027.

If you think we might be a good fit for one another I would love to chat with you!

Ideas for Baby's First Photos | Newborn Girl Styling through Dainty Accessories

Sarah shares samples of the setups you can expect when visiting for a posed infant session.

A popular question I receive from parents is, ‘where do you we buy all the props we see in your photos?’ Have no fear: I provide everything for your sessions and do so with thought, creativity, and also ensuring our session is all things classic, timeless, and forever preserves this incredibly special time in your life.

Prop Philosophy | Enhance Through Simplicity

As a professional newborn baby photographer, the branding behind my studio encompasses all things natural, dreamy, and simple. The props you’ll find on hand are often inspired by my love of vintage and antique vibes, but also lets the baby shine and does not detract from your little one. Baby should be the star of the images. Props and accessories add gorgeous touches such as interesting textures, background, and rustic floor items, but simple is always best as to not take away from the beauty of a newborn baby. This approach also ensures your photos are forever timeless. I liken this to the little black dress we, as women, all have in our closet. Classic, forever chic, and never too trendy, as those trends do fade.

Handmade with Love from all over the world

Moreover, each piece you find in my Houston Newborn Baby Portrait Studio is carefully selected to curate an amazing collection for our time together! Many of my favorite vendors are sourced from all over the world such as Poland, Italy, Australia, Canada, and more! While the states has plenty of neat vendors, there is something incredibly special and unique about purchasing handcrafted, small batch props that are custom designed for petite clients. As a photographer, I build relationships and repertoire with my vendors and am so happy to have many options for all of my needs.

For instance, I purchase all of my luxury little sitter props from GeorgeandAnnie, located in Brisbane, Australia. My hand-knitted, darling and precious newborn baby bonnets are from MoonlightLittleKnits, located in Milan, Italy. These beautiful photography props for newborn babes make for the dreamiest of sessions! By using handmade photography props, the quality is excellent and also unique! When it comes to my ninja wrapping newborn skills, however, I love to purchase baby headbands and wraps from ClothApothecary.

However, my absolute favorite vendor for headbands, tiebacks, and dainty, petite accessories for little ladies is Created by Carli, props for little people, located in the UK. Her items are so amazing it’s worth using the pound, ha!, and converting it over to American dollars, ha! Of all the vendors I’ve encountered, her headbands, florals, halos, and tiebacks are the perfect addition to adorn any chubby cherub baby girl.

Delicate, Natural, and Lovely

Ahhh, if you’ve made it this far I am truly excited to show you, through recent newborn baby girl sessions why I provide all styling, such as props, accessories, lighting, etc., because my studio is the perfect place for your little one’s session. Simply bring their diaper bag and leave the rest to me. A newborn styling questionnaire & posed prep guide are always provided for parents, but put your feet up, relax, and leave everything to me. During our time, I’ll ensure Baby is comfortable, safely posed, and you have a little break.

What’s in my camera bag? Must Have Lenses & Gear for Baby Photographers

Best Canon Lenses for Newborn Photography | Recommendations for Accessory and Gear

Hey, friends! Welcome to my blog! Today’s post is taking a little break from showcasing a typical posed session and focuses on the technical side of photography: the gear! Now, I know you’re thinking that a fancy camera is all you need to take amazing newborn images; a great camera body is an awesome foundation, nevertheless, there are several lenses you need, too, to ensure top quality!

A little background about me, especially if this is your first time visiting! My name is Sarah Borchgrevink (Bork-grey-veenk) and I’m a professional portrait artist in Houston! I specialized in those brand new, squishy images of earthside cherubs, preferably in the first 14 days of life! I have photographed over 900 newborns to date and average around 250 babies per year. This in mind, having the best gear accessible to my studio is a huge priority of mine! Let’s get started on 5 items you cannot live without!

Full Frame Camera Bodies | Team Canon!

best camera for newborn photography

Before we get started you should know that both Canon and Nikon are fantastic options! I would compare them to luxury car brands such as BMW or Lexus: ultimately, it comes down to which body you prefer and what feels “best” in your hands, similar to test driving a vehicle before making a final purchase. I personally am team Canon! I started with this brand and have been a loyal customer.

I have the following full frame camera bodies in my studio:

What Lenses for Posed Infant Photography?

Now that you’ve read about the two camera bodies I keep on hand, and use at the same time, I am super excited to share my three favorite lenses I utilize for each and every little one who visits! While I have several other prime lenses that I use for my outdoor work, these are the must haves when working with newborn babies.

Unique Lens to Create Works of Creative Art | 100 mm

newborn photography lenses

Of all my lenses, the 100 mm macro is a complete & total dream! This lens makes me so excited and happy to work with little ones because it focuses on all things details. Macro images are a huge part of my newborn photography; this gives your gallery a soulful dynamic and truly sets your images apart! A common question I receive, from parents, is ‘What are macro images?”

Macro images is simply photography producing photography of small items larger than life size. This means the up-close details of your little one, such as their lips, eye lashes, toes, hands, etc., essentially the characteristics that shine through and give your baby their own unique aspect.

Macro lenses are how you create unique and artistic images highlighting the absolute breathtaking beauty in a brand new little one!

The Ultimate Workhorse | Nifty Fifty Redefined as a Sigma ART

what lens for newborn photography?

Okay, y’all: about 60 percent of my newborn sessions are shot with the nifty fifty, specifically the Sigma ART. I adore this lens. Sharpness, crisp imagery, low light aperture, but also a tank that holds up over time! This is a must have lens for newborn photography because it versatile; most of the cropping is done in camera to result in higher image quality and it also has less distortion since it’s also a longer focal length than the 35 listed below. Now, this lens will truly rock your world! Moreover, the background compression is just enough for a posed baby session so you can see all the features of a wee one without having to worry you’ll lose too much of the focus.

A nice addition & perspective | 35 mm

essential newborn photography must haves

The 35 mm f/1.4 ART was my favorite newborn lens for the first few years I photographed my petite clients; however, overtime it became a runner up to the ever so special lenses listed above. While this is not my favorite lens anymore, you still can’t be without it, HA! Let me explain. I totally understand I have contradicted myself. This lens allows you to do something super unique and special: composite your own froggy poses. Yes, I do these myself. Yes, I have taken newborn workshops and mentoring. Yes, I am always practicing safety. The 35 allows you to also have interesting perspectives such as overhead photos, too! While the 50 is my preference the 35 will always be special because of those two advantages.

In conclusion, the gear listed above are my recommendations for awesome newborn photography! However, these are just simple tips and tricks; many artists use different lenses and there is no “correct” way to photograph newborns as long as you’re doing so safely. Newborn photography is absolutely a journey and we all start somewhere with our gear.
