Oh, Emma. You’re my first born, my ray of sunshine; my impossibly precious gingersnap. You bring a sense of purpose and determination to all that you do. This includes learning to ride your first bike.

The weather has been dreary lately. Cold and damp. Yet in the midst of winter, the sun began to shine through the clouds. “Mama, can we go to the park? May I ride my bike?”

Thanks to the training wheels, Emma is a natural. She tentatively sits on the bike, waiting for instruction. I show her how to move her legs, a circle of rhythm that propels the bike forward. I explain how pedaling backwards will stop her; I gently place her hands on the handlebars and guide her in steering.

Within moments, she is pedaling.

Within minutes, she is laughing and racing down our quiet, suburban street.

These experiences teach me patience and are humbling. I am blessed to her mommy; I find joy through her happiness, and awe in her innocence. What did I do to deserve her?

For 2015, I have decided to spend more time photographing my littles, Emma and Lucy, in their own environment, unabashed, and lettings things develop organically. They will only be small for a short amount of time, and as parents, we often ask, “Where did the time go?” These photographs add a connection to our past.

As a Houston, Texas photographer specializing in a laid back and candid lifestyle feel, I usually bring my camera everywhere with me. Of course, when one of my favorite gal pal's invited me to her birthday celebration at the Crazy Canvas, located in Katy, Texas, I jumped at the chance to snap some quick photographs.

The following were photographed with a Canon 6d and a Sigma 35 mm f/1.4 art. This lens is wonderful for indoors and low light performance.

The Crazy Canvas is a great girls night. The premise is fairly simple: select the painting online, register for your class, invite your friends, and bring snacks, wine, or whatever snacks you enjoy. The cost was around $35.00 for the session. Moreover, The Crazy Canvas also offers ceramic courses, classes for teens and children, crafting, scrap-booking, and fused glass. They even have Karaoke nights.

If you're like me, you may be slightly intimidated by the idea of painting. It's not something I do on a regular basis, and I felt a little nervous since I "artistic" is not a word I would regularly use to describe myself. Nevertheless, the class comes with an educated and qualified instructor to walk you through the entire process. She was very patient and explained the process very well. Step by step - and suddenly, you're painting! You're having a glass of wine, listening to great music, and laughing with your girlfriends. The anxiety melts away and it's a great night out.

As a Houston family and child photographer, I had a wonderful time heading to beautiful Tomball, Texas for an outdoor and home holiday family photography session. I have had the pleasure of working with the "W" family numerous times, and each session is different, but always in a good way! ;)

Perhaps my favorite aspects of client interaction is seeing the children grow. We know time moves quickly; however, seeing the children a few times per year and the changes that occur really showcases just how fleeting it all is. It's a motivation to provide the best images I possible can because embracing this age is so important.

For this session, the "W" family invited me to their home. This is a wonderful idea for holiday or family photos. It adds a fun and unique dynamic to the session, and also is a beautiful way to showcase the children because they are happy in their own environment.

Moreover, I adore home sessions because your home is a special place. It's where you've chosen to raise your little ones; it's where you lay your head at night, and where you are surrounded by the things that are both good and beautiful in your life.
