Weekly Theme: Sibling Play {Sarah Borchgrevink Photography} Cypress, TX child photographer

Good morning, y'all! I hope everyone had a wonderful week and is gearing up for the weekend! My weekend is looking pretty laid back; Emma is turning 5 so we'll probably do something low key as her actual birthday party is in a few weeks.

If you follow me or check in regularly, you may know that I do weekly projects and themes with my little ones.  This is partly because it helps me grow in a creative aspects, though it's also an interesting way to document the lives of my littles, Emma and Lucy. So often, as parents, we are busy doing a zillion things, so focusing on a theme is something I look forward to.

This week's theme is sibling and play. I love these images because it's about letting them be who they are. The weather was especially nice earlier on. That's a perk of living in Cypress, TX: year around play in the backyard! Ha! ;) For this set up, Emma wanted to have a picnic, so I simply laid a quilt out, placed some toys on the ground, and let them play.

However, as much as I love the nice weather, it can quickly turn sour. :-( This part of the week we ended up just playing inside. Perhaps my favorite element of this image is seeing Emma patiently explaining the toys to Lucy. They are four years apart, though Emma is ever so purposeful in her patience.

Lucy's little hands are so sweet! Small details make me smile. This is when she first started sitting up, so she is still learning to balance!

Interesting fact about Emma: she LOVES dress up clothes! As soon as she comes home from preschool, she runs to her bedroom, strips her "every day" clothing, and prances about in a tutu or something magical (at least to a little girl). She also adores those cowboy boots. She's a Texan!

Now that Lucy is sitting up, I love capturing her smiles and seeing her explore the world. Having two little ones is a blessing!

Afternoon Light with Lucy {Cypress, Texas Child Lifestyle Photographer}

Little Lucy; my second born, my bellower - my chubby ginger who brings endless amounts of happiness to our lives. This week you are full of wonder and curiosity. You're still little, yet as your mother I see every change; I feel them in my bones, and carry each in my heart.

I see the way your face is changing, taking shape, and forming into who you are. I adore your eye lashes. Your button nose, your cherub lips. Sometimes I tell your daddy, "I simply cannot stand it. She's so cute!"

You have so many nick names. You started out as "Lucy Goosey". This morphed into "Goose," and "le goose". Awhile later, as you gained weight and became a ball of chubby baby goodness, you became "ham bone" followed by "Seal pup". These terms of endearment make me smile, and I love documenting your week - your movements, your inquisitive sense of purpose.

This week you tried table food, as we're doing baby led weaning. You really liked avocado, peas, and mushrooms. You even ate pulled pork and steak! My goodness!

I look forward to the time I spend with you, particularly when big sister (Emma) is in school, and it's just us. The afternoon light in our house is my favorite - so warm and lovely.

If you enjoyed viewing these images, please check back next week. :-) I am doing weekly blogs about the littles (Emma and Lucy). It is meant to be a creative outlet, and to also celebrate their small victories from the week.

Emma Rides {Cypress, Texas Child Photographer}

Oh, Emma. You’re my first born, my ray of sunshine; my impossibly precious gingersnap. You bring a sense of purpose and determination to all that you do. This includes learning to ride your first bike.

The weather has been dreary lately. Cold and damp. Yet in the midst of winter, the sun began to shine through the clouds. “Mama, can we go to the park? May I ride my bike?”

Thanks to the training wheels, Emma is a natural. She tentatively sits on the bike, waiting for instruction. I show her how to move her legs, a circle of rhythm that propels the bike forward. I explain how pedaling backwards will stop her; I gently place her hands on the handlebars and guide her in steering.

Within moments, she is pedaling.

Within minutes, she is laughing and racing down our quiet, suburban street.

These experiences teach me patience and are humbling. I am blessed to her mommy; I find joy through her happiness, and awe in her innocence. What did I do to deserve her?

For 2015, I have decided to spend more time photographing my littles, Emma and Lucy, in their own environment, unabashed, and lettings things develop organically. They will only be small for a short amount of time, and as parents, we often ask, “Where did the time go?” These photographs add a connection to our past.

Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed this post and would like to see more, check back for weekly updates. As a Cypress, Texas family and child photographer, I will be doing weekly themes and projects.
