Precious Kenley's Neutral Inspired Newborn Session Is fresh, simple and clean to reflect everything pure about a brand new baby.
Greetings to you! I'd like to begin by taking a moment to welcome you to my blog. Here is where I preview the latest baby bumps, fresh new babies and occasional outdoor family session. My name is Sarah and I'm super stoked you're here! Newborn photography is essentially my life: while I am a wife and mama, my studio is my favorite place to be and that's where all of my newborn sessions take place. If this is your first time here, welcome! Here's a little bit of information so you can see what's new.
When this beautiful baby girl's parents first notified me about booking their session, I instantly knew they were the perfect fit. Mom relayed she really likes all things soft, feminine and neutral. While I typically do a lot of color in my newborn sessions, I am not opposed to fresh and pure color schemes such as white, cream, tan, and perhaps even some muted pinks.
For this session, Mom and Dad chose for Baby to be the focus and they did not do family photos. While family and parent images are included in their collection, some parents prefer for the little one to be the star. That's perfectly okay. It is your session, after all!
The first floor prop I used with baby girl Kenley is a simple wire basket. You see, my newborn photography philosophy is to let your baby be the focal point of all sessions. I remove distracting props and items that take away from the cuteness of your baby. I like soft, simple textures and vintage inspired props to retain the classic tone of the portraits. 30 years from now, when your little one is getting married, you will look back on these images and we want the portraits to feel timeless. They are only newborns for a few short weeks; before you know it, baby is a precious toddler who boasts all things tyrannical, then a child, then a preteen. It goes by quickly! Partly why I specialize in newborns is because I have three young kiddos myself and know how fleeting this time is. Working with brand new babies is an absolute dream!
I always do a few macro images during the first floor prop, too. Macro images are included in all three of my newborn collections (the mini wrapped, petite and full). They're super fun to photograph because these are completely unique to each baby. Their profile, lips, toes, tiny fingers, hairline, ears, chubby cheeks, etc. - each baby is different. Your little one is absolutely breathtaking so the macros differ for every baby who comes to my studio. Sometimes I focus on different characteristics, but in this case, her cheeks and lips were my favorite element.
For the potato pose portion of K's session, I pulled a simple white wrap, flokati rug and bonnet. These elements add interest to your images through the use of layers and texture but also will match any decor. Typically, parents hang the photos in the nursery or living areas.
The second floor prop in her session is one of my favorite buckets! I also consider grey to be a neutral; it can be dark or light, etc. She is snuggled ever so sweetly and her little hands are the cutest! The grey tieback that adorns her sweet forehead is also custom made so as not to detract from the adorable nature of your little one. I provide all styling for new babies. When you arrive, just bring baby's diaper bag and leave the rest to me.
For baby girl's third floor prop, I used a wooden trench and pulled some soft mauve and muted pinks for this set up. I love the texture of this wrap; this is where we did the tootsie wrap. If you are interested in seeing more details about the three styles of newborn wrapping I always use, despite the session type, click on over to this post to see more. I promise it's so cute, ha!
I also did the "tucked in" pose during this floor prop to add more variety to the gallery. During our time together, little one does call the shots. Plan to be in studio from anywhere from 1-2 hours; I promise, however, you'll have an amazing gallery.
Here is what Kenley's parents had to say about their time at the studio:
We found Sarah here on Google and are SO grateful we did! She captured our baby girl at 6 days old and we will cherish those photos forever! Sarah is not only professional, but, more importantly with your new little one, she is patient, kind, and loving. She treated our baby like her own to keep her feeling calm and comfy during the entire photo shoot. Sarah was so gentle in her beautiful and creative wrapping! Thank you Sarah for our beautiful photos! You are completely in your element with these sweet babes and doing exactly what you were created to do!
